Conscientious Objector
This is when someone follows their conscience (their inner voice of God) and does not go to a specific war. He/She may use violence on another occasion if they felt it was necessary.
Criminals
These are people who have committed a crime and can be put in prison for it.
Deterrence
Punish people so harshly that other criminals will think twice e.g; : death penalty
Holy War
A war fought to protect a religion
Just War
This refers to the terms/rules under which a war is allowed. There are six rules which say going to war can happen.
Justice
This means that people are treated fairly in all ways.
Pacifist
Someone who believes people should never resort to violence.
Peace
The absence of war and/or other hostilities
Protection
To lock the criminal away to protect other members of society.
Punishment
The infliction of a penalty for committing an offence.
Rehabilitation
Try to change the criminal into a better person.
Retribution
The punishment should suit the crime - an eye for an eye theory.
Social Injustice
This refers to unfair treatment of a person or groups of people; sexism, racism, poverty and ageism.
Vindication
To have punishments which make people respect the law.
War
A period of open, armed and prolonged conflict between states, nations or parties.
