What is achievement motivation ?
The level of ones motivation to achieve.
The Drive to Succeed-The Fear of Failure.

What are some characteristics of a NACH performer (Approach behaviour)
- likes challenging tasks
- Likes 50/50 situations
- Try’s hard (even after failure)
- Takes risks
- Welcomes feedback
- Attributes success internally

What are some characteristics of a NAF performer (Avoidance behaviour) ?
- Avoids challenging activities
- Avoids failure
- Hates 50/50 situations
- Lacks effort or persistence
- Hates feedback
- Doesn’t take responsibility for losing

What is motivation ?
The drive to achieve a goal

What’s extrinsic motivation, and what are the 2 types ?
Motivation driven by external rewards (tangible and intangible rewards)

What’s an example of a tangible reward ?
Any physical rewards. E.G. Trophies, Medals, Certificates and prize money

What’s an example of an intangible reward ?
Praise from coaches, claps and cheers from coaches or players or spectators

What’s intrinsic motivation ?
Motivation driven by internal rewards (inner feelings and enjoyment)

What is goal setting ?
Setting targets to improve motivation

What is an outcome goal ?
A goal based on an end outcome.
E.G. Winning the league

What’s a performance goal ?
A goal based on individual achievement.
E.G. A new PB in 100m

What’s a process goal ?
A goal set to improve technique

What does SMARTER stand for ?
SPECIFIC, MEASURABLE, ACHIEVABLE, REALISTIC, TIMED, EVALUATE, RE-DO

What are the benefits of goal setting ?
- Increased motivation
- Improves confidence
- Sustains high levels of effort

What is aggression ?
Behaviour intended to harm others (outside of the rules)
