PE Flashcards
Static/Explosive/Dynamic strength
- static/Amount of force a muscle can exert without changing length
- explosive/ strength used in a sudden movement
- Dynamic/force applied against a resistance over time
Name all the physical components of fitness?
Strength , speed, cardiovascular endurance, muscular endurance, power, flexibility
Strength?
force applied by muscle against resistance
Speed
ability of the body to move as quickly as possible
cardiovascular endurance
the ability of the heart and lungs to continuously supply oxygen over long periods
Muscular endurance
the ability of the muscles to work continuously together over a period of time without fatiguing
Power
combination of strength and speed
Flexibility
the range of movements at a joint
How does cartilage support the body?
- found at the end of bones
- will act as ‘shock absorber’ to protect james from high impact running
How do ligaments support the body?
attach bone to bone at a joint.
-james’s ligaments in his ankles and knees will stabalise his joint and reduce chance of injury
How do tendons support the body?
connect muscle to the bone and allow for movement to take place. james may experience pain in his tendons if he over trains
explanation of muscles working together when running?
Muscles are attached to bones by tendons. When running the knee must flex and straighten. The hamstring and quadriceps must work together(antagonistic pairs) to create movement. When the hamstrings contract(prime mover) the quadriceps must relax(antagonist) to allow flexion at the knee
what are all the skill related components of fitness?
co-ordiantion, timing , balance, agility, reaction time
coordination?
Ability to control body when performing different actions at the same time
reaction time
time taken to respond to a given stimulus
agility
ability to change direction quickly
balance
the ability to stay level and stable
timing
the ability for movements to work at the same time in relation to external factors e.g hitting a cricket ball to generate enough power and accuracy
How does the body go through the recovery process in terms of lungs, sweat and other functions?
lungs/ increase the depth and frequency of breathing to remove carbon dioxide and intake more oxygen to break down lactic acid
sweat/ sweat more to cool body and regulate temp
other bodily functions/urine and faceas also remove waste products
adv/ dis adv of weight training
adv:
-can focus on certain muscle groups
-easily accessible
-can improve strength power and endurance
dis adv:
-may need to pay fees to enter access them
-can damage bone growth if you start at young age
-need to know knowledge of weights
