PE Flashcards
LESSON 1
Is the relationship between energy we CONSUME and energy we USE
Energy Balance
This is the energy (or calories) we get from the food and drinks we consume.
Energy Intake
This is the energy
(or calories) our body uses for all its
functions and activities, such as breathing,
digesting food, and physical activities like
walking, running, or playing sports
Energy Expenditure
If you eat a meal with 500
calories
Energy Intake
If you go for a 30
minutes run and burn 300 calories
Energy Expenditure
If we consistently take in more energy than our body uses.
Positive Energy Balance
If we
consistently take in less energy than our
body uses
Negative Energy Balance
30 to 60 minutes per day, or at least 150
to 250 minutes per week of moderate
physical activity is prescribed.
Noncommunicable Diseases (NCDs)
45 to 60 minutes per session or 300 minutes
per week of moderate physical activity such as
brisk walking, dancing, or doing housework
and domestic chores or 150 minutes of
vigorous physical activity such as running, fast
cycling, aerobics, or fast swimming
Successful Weight Management
10 minutes segments, accumulating
30 to 60 minutes per day, is an
effective alternative to continuous
exercise.
Severely Deconditioned
or Sedentary People
that are rhythmic and involve
large muscle groups bring
about the best results for
weight management.
Aerobic physical activities
Brisk walking, cycling, jogging,
swimming, and dancing are
examples of such
Aerobic physical activities
should be used as an
adjunct to a regular aerobic
training program
Resistance or strength
training
is an
exercise that uses resistance to
induce muscular contraction
important for building strength,
endurance, and size of skeletal muscles.
