PDH Summary Flashcards
Meanings of health
- definitions of health
- dimensions of health
- relative and dynamic
Perceptions of health
- perceptions of their health
- perception of health of others
- implications of perceptions
- impact of media, peers, family
Health behaviours of young people
- positive health status
-protective and risk behaviours
Determinants of health
- individual
- sociocultural
- socioeconomic
- environmental
Degrees of control of individuals over their health
- modifiable non-modifiable
- changing influence of determinants through life stages
Health as a social construct
- interrelationship of determinants
- challenges notion that health is solely individual’s responsibility
What is HP
enabling people control over their health and determinants - therefore improve health
Responsibility for HP
- individuals
- community groups/schools
- non gov
- gov
- international
HP approaches and lifetsyles
- lifestyle/behavioural approaches
- preventative medical
- public health
Ottawa charter
DSCRB
Principles of social justice
- equity
- diversity
- supportive environments
Motivators/barriers to participation
- access to facilities
- convenience
- cost
- feelings
- exercise as a priority
- infelunce of other responsibilities
how body applies force
- newtons laws - 2nd and 3rd in particular
- summation of forces
-centripetal (centre), centrifugal (opposite)
how body absorbs
- transferring to muscles - a little to bones
responses to training
heart rate - how quickly - large spike, then platform to intensity - decrease quickly then slowly
ventilation rate - directly corresponds with intensity
stroke volume - 63% then plateau - how much - before HR - gradual decrease
cardiac ouput - HR and SV - pressure - blood pumped per min - increase, stabilise as SV just before HR, then lower as SV decreases
lactate - inc acidity of muscle cells - harder to convert energy - primarily anaerobic training as lactic acid system
benefits of fitness testing
goals/motivation, prevent injury, monitor heath trends, assessing heatlh
benefits of increasing physical activity (physical)
increase caridac ouput etc - leads to beytter breathing patterns and efficiency of oxygen transfer etc, lower HR as heart stronger, reduced resistance in arteries therefore lower blood pressure
aerobic and anaerobic training
aerobic - 60-75%MHR usual, 80-85% to push aerobic close to anaerobic - 85-95% to work and improve anaerobic - 50-60% to build aerobic base - challenge cardiovasuclar system, imrpove oxygen delivery, improve muscular strength
heart
coronary artery - oxygenated blood to heart
pulmonary artery from heart to lungs, vein from lungs to heart, red blood cells - carry oxygen and co2,
dynamic/relative
dynamic - changing minunte to minute or year to year
relative - different perceptions based on values or meaning eg older happy w physical if can do chores, athelete needs to perform at increased level of intense work to be happy
first aid
situational analysis - what, who and how. pap - 4bs, drsabcd, stop
cpr, shock, bleeding, spinal, unconscious
