PC5 Flashcards
1
Q
What is activation energy?
A
The minimum amount of kinetic energy particles need to react
2
Q
What is the effect of a higher temperature on the rate of reaction?
A
Speeds up the rate of reaction because the molecules will on average have more kinetic energy and will move faster. So a greater proportion of molecules will have at least the activation energy and be able to react. The Maxwell-Boltzmann distribution curve shifts to the right and downwards. The total number of molecules stays the same
3
Q
What are the 3 ways you can measure the rate of reaction?
A
- Time taken for precipitate to form
- Change in mass
- Gas volume given off
