PC Flashcards
Please state your name for the court?
Poe Cameron.
What do you do for a living, Ms. Cameron?
I work part-time at a daycare called Wonderful Beginnings. Most days, I am in the preschool classroom, which contains kids ages 3-5. My job basically consists of planning daily activities for the kids and making sure they are all safe and sound for whoever is picking them up.
How long have you been working at Wonderful Beginnings?
Well, I’d say it’s been about two years now. I started in 2021 because I was doing some court ordered community service there. I really connected with the kids and I fit in naturally, so the owners offered me a job after my service had ended.
Tell us more about why you had community service?
When I was 18, my sister, Memphis, and I went to an art museum gift shop. I found this incredible geode that had colors that resembled a sunset; it was something I’ve never seen before. The bad part was that it was quite pricey, and I didn’t have a job back then so I couldn’t really afford it. Memphis kept insisting I steal it, and I eventually let her get the best of me and gave in. Luckily, I got caught and took full responsibility for my actions.
Your sister…Memphis Raynes, can you tell us about her?
Yeah. Memphis is a bit older than me, but we did grow up together. People around our town thought we looked pretty similar, which I kinda hated. Growing up with an older sister means that you get a lot of hand-me-downs. At the very least, I wanted my own unique face, but unfortunately people have and still do mistake us for one another. One place we do differ in is in our priorities in life. Memphis is a big trouble-maker. Recently though, I thought she was turning a corner from her “troubled past” when the prison released her early from her last sentence. I think I was wrong about that.
Why do you say you were wrong about your sister?
Memphis was a part of a “big job”, but I never really knew what it was. Initially, I thought it could be a good idea to ask to join in, just for some extra spending money. When Memphis agreed to let me in, the first thing I had to do was co-sign onto some company, which I did. After that, I had to go to a meeting that was supposed to talk about some basics of the job. During that meeting, I got a really weird feeling about the whole ordeal. I still didn’t know what the job was about, but I decided it was best to play it safe and get out before I got too involved.
Where did your relationship with your sister go from there?
I guess you could say we have become more distant. It’s just that throughout my whole life, Memphis has made a lot of decisions that I don’t agree with. I’ve learned that it’s best to just stay out of it.
Thank you Ms. Cameron, now I want to talk to you about the reason we’re here today.
Have you ever been to Miller Tower?
I’ve definitely walked past it, but I can’t say I’ve ever gone inside. I’ve been to a few street festivals around that area. The closest I’ve been to going inside is when I was taking selfies for my Tinder profile. I know, it’s pretty embarrassing, but I’ve been looking for love for a while now. I was walking down the street one day, and had this “brilliant” idea to use Miller Tower as a backdrop because it looked fancy. In the moment, it felt perfect. Looking back on it now, it looks really dumb.
Are you aware of the heist that took place on Halloween 2022 at Miller Tower?
Oh yeah. I’m pretty sure everyone in Midlands has heard about it. It seemed like something straight out…oh I don’t know…Ocean’s Eleven maybe?
Where were you on the night of the heist?
So there was a Halloween festival right near Miller Tower. I thought it would be fun to go and maybe meet some new people…if you know what I mean. Anyways, I bought a mask to wear to the festival, sometime in early October. You know those times when you’re in the dressing room and you try something on and you love it, but once you bring it home and give it a second look, you decide it’s just not for you? That’s about what happened.
What happened to this mask?
I wanted to get a second opinion on the costume. I told my mom how I wanted to show her my mask, but she said that I should show Memphis instead. It would be a good “sister bonding thing” or whatever. Since my mom knew that Memphis and I were not that close at the moment, she also thought it would be nice of me to take some of her famous casserole over to Memphis’ apartment. I ended up doing what my mom had suggested. Of course, Memphis did not like the mask on me, but she was interested in using it for her own Halloween party. At that point, I didn’t really want to make her mad, so I gave it to her.
Was there anything else you gave to Memphis?
No, but I did leave her with the leftovers of my mom’s casserole.
You heard (fill in the blank) talk about a ring of yours being involved in the heist. Can you tell us a bit about this ring?
Yes! I originally found it online and decided to buy it. The design on the front looked really cool, and it was on sale. The bad part about buying stuff off the internet is that you’ll never really know how it’ll fit. It was a bit big, but I liked it a lot and decided to wear it anyway. As the weather got colder, the ring loosened on my finger and sure enough…I ended up losing it at some point.
Did you ever try to look for that ring?
Yeah. For weeks I searched my whole house for it, and of course I didn’t find it. I was really confused when Det. Bahmani brought the ring out in my interview, especially about the fact that it was found in my house.
You heard Detective Bahmani testify today that you were stopped on your way to Canada, can you explain that?
Yeah, so I am sort of a gem enthusiast. I know where to get the real stuff. I know a super great ice, or diamond, dealer in Canada. When I go ice, or diamond, fishing, I make sure to bring the cash I set aside from each paycheck for buying gems, just because this specific dealer doesn’t take cards. This time, I was going to look for a really nice ring. I was upset about losing my old ring, and the whole dating thing really wasn’t working. I decided I wanted to treat myself.
