Patterns of memory performance Flashcards
Average immediate - impaired delay - impaired recognition
a. (slide) Typical of damage to the medial temporal structures and lateral temporal lobe; (his notes) typical of damage to the limbic memory areas - hippocampus
- Suggests problems with consolidation/ storage
b. temporal lobe
c. key here is impaired delayed and recognition - immediate may range from average to impaired
Impaired immediate - low - average delay with high proportion retained - low-average or better recognition
- Typical of depression or subcortical damage ([notes}frontal lobe damage because of impaired executive functions, will not develop or apply an effective strategy to search for and retrieve stored information)
- Suggests problems with encoding
- Key here is recognition is superior to spontaneous recall - immediate and delay recall may range from low-average to impaired
Discrepancy between auditory-verbal and visual-graphic recall
Lateralized damage - problem may be memory specific or more general verbal or spatial deficits - need to look at performance on other tests to discriminate between these
