Patterns of Inheritance Flashcards
1
Q
How does phenotype differ from genotype?
A
The genotype is what you carry in your genes whereas the trait that manifests is the phenotype.
2
Q
What is a synonym of true-breeding?
A
It is homozygous. Thus, homologous chromosomes have the same allele for a gene. The opposite is heterozygous.
3
Q
How do we represent the dominant and the recessive allele?
A
The dominant allele has an upper case letter and the lower case letter is used for the recessive allele. If both are present, the dominant allele’s trait will be the phenotype.
