patient teminoly 3 Flashcards
Hypovolemic shock
Follows loss of large amounts of blood or plasma
Septic shock
Occurs when toxic products during massive infection causes a dramatic decrease in blood pressure
Neurogenic shock
causes blood to pool in peripheral vessels
Cardiogenic shock
Secondary to cardiac failure or other interference with heart function
allergic shock or anaphylaxis
allergic reaction to form proteins after injection of iodinated contrast agent
Trauma
Series and potentially life-threatening injuries
Ventilators
medical respiratory attached to tracheostomy
Nasogastric tube
Tube inserted through the nose and down through esophagus into the stomach
Chest tubes
tubes place to remove fluid or air from the pleural space
Negative contrast agent
Most commonly used negative contract agent is air
Positive contrast agent
Iodine or barium
aqueous iodine compounds
Water salute sterling contrast agent
iodinated ionic contrast agents
Salt of organic iodine compounds, composed of positively and negative charge ions
iodinated nonionic contrast agent
agents that do not ionized into separate positive and negative charges
anaphylactic reaction
Flushing hives nausea
cardiovascular reaction
Hypotension tachycardia, cardiac arrest
Pathogenic factors
Maybe used by patient anxiety
hypodermic needle gauge
Unit of measurements that indicates diameter, the larger the gauge the smaller than diameter of needle opening
Intravenous IV catheter
Combination units with a needle inside a flexible plastic catheter
bio hazardous material possible routes of entry
Inhalation swallowing absorption through the skin or mucus membrane
Material safety data sheet
provides direction for handling precautions, safe use of products, clean up and disposable of biohazardous materials
