Q

Senile plaques

A

Extracellular deposit of protein with properties of amyloid
Surrounded by ring of abnormal neuronal processes (dystrophic neurites)
Common in normal aging
SP alone do not equal dementia

Q

Neurofibrillary tangles

A
Intraneural collections of abnormal protein fibrils
Paired helical filaments
Hyperphosphorylated tay protein
Not specific for AD
They might actually be protective
