Q

What is acute inflammation?

A

Initial defensive tissue response to an insult such as infection. It consists of infiltration by neutrophils, increased vascular leafiness and increase amount of cytokines.
In acute viral illness we usually see lymphocytes rather than neutrophils.

17
Q

What is a partial defect in the superficial layers of the epithelium referred to as?

A

Erosion

18
Q

What is an ulcer?

A

A defect in full thickness epithelium associated with inflamed necrotic debris

19
Q

What is granulation tissue?

A

New CT and new blood vessels that form the base of an uk er as part of the repair process

20
Q

What is a sinus tract ?

A

A blind ended channel leading from a skin or mucous surface to an underlying focus of inflammation or infection, usually lined by granulation tissue.
