Q

Impingement syndrome

A

inflammation, pain and edema in the tissues within the coracoacromial arch and between the acromiaoclavicular and glenohumeral joints. Painful compression of the tendons, especially supraspinatus

3
Q

3 stages of impingement

A

stage 1 there is edema and hemorrhage of the subacromial bursa (reversible)
stage 2 tendonitis and fibrosis are present (reversible)
Stage 3 incomplete tears or complete rupture occurs (surgery indicated)

Q

Calcific tendonitis/tendonopathy

A

late occurring stage of rotator cuff tendonitis, usually developing in the supraspinatus tendon. Pressure on the tendon causes the fibrocytes to change the chondrocytes, collagen distingetrates and calcific deposits accumulate within the cell

Q

Rheumatoid arthritis

A

an inflammatory destructive, chronic autoimmune disease of multiple joints and connective tissue throughout the body

17
Q

Systemic Lupus Erythematosus (SLE)

A

A type of chronic attack - remit autoimmune inflammatory disease that can affect any system or organ in a variable manner

18
Q

Still’s disease and juvenile rheumatoid arthritis

A

chronic synovial inflammation in children (idiopathic)

19
Q

Lyme disease

A

A complex rheumatic disease caused by the spirochete borrelia burgdorferi

20
Q

Reiter’s syndrome

A

a triad of arthritis, non-gonococcal urethritis and conjunctivitis (pink eye) following inflammation of the intestines or urinary tract

21
Q

Scleroderma

A

a systemic disorder affecting collagen, characterized by slowly spreading fibrosis and collagen deposits throughout the body

22
Q

Strains

A

an overstretch injury to a musculogendinous unit

23
Q

Sprain

A

an overstretch injury to a ligament

24
Q

dislocation

A

the complete dissociation of the articulating surfaces of a joint

25
subluxation
articulating surfaces of a joint remain in partial contact with each other
26
contusion
a crush injury to a muscle
27
Decubitus ulcers
pressure sore, are skin lesions caused by and exernal pressure, shearing or friction force that is sufficient to locally impair circulation and lymphatic flow in susceptible individuals
28
fracture
break in the continuity of a bone
29
paratendinitis
tenosynovitis, tenovaginitis inflammation of the paratendon or tendon sheath, where is crosses a bony prominence or the sheath of the tendon is being irritated by the roughened tendon
