Pathology (Bony) Flashcards
what is an odontogenic radiolucency that is mostly asymptomatic, may or may not cause root displacement, and the teeth are non-vital?
Radicular cyst
Periapical cysts that cause inflammation can trigger the rests in the PDL ligaments which leads to these
*remember that these can cause displacement
similar to a radicular cysts, but there is a tooth missing?
residual cyst
can be asymptomatic, cause root displacement
describe corticated vs sclerotic borders of a lesion
Corticated is generally and uninterrupted radiopaque border with uniform thickness seen in more benign lesions
Sclerotic borders are thicker radiopaque lines that can have varying degrees of thickness in the lesion. usually associated with more inflammatory or possibly malignant pathology
in a dentigerous cyst, how many mm’s away from the crown does the lining need to be before we call it a cyst vs a normal follicle?
3mm
a dentigerous cyst is also called follicular cyst…because it stems from the fluid fill follicle causing expansion
what are 2 syndromes that likely have supernumerary teeth?
Gorlins syndrome
Cleidocranial dysplasia
