What is subclinical hypothyroidism?
Where TSH is high but it is still managing to stimulate enough T4 production.
Does subclinical hypothyroidism usually progress to overt hypothyroidism?
Usually yes
Can thyroiditis produce oncocytic change in cells?
Yes (sometimes called Hurthle cells)
What are histological signs of papillary thyroid cancer?
Psammamatous calcification (black substance)
Orphan annie nuclei (nuclei very pale with central clearing)
Nuclear grooves and inclusions
Symptoms of EBV infection.
Sore throat
Lymphadenopathy
Jaundice
Upper abdo pain
Investigations/management for EBV infection and why?
FBC - risk of haemolysis and thrombocytopaenia
Penicillin - hypersensitivity to amoxicillin
Rest (risk of splenic rupture)
