Study of changes in physiology due to disease or injury

What is Etiology ?
Physiology – Study of normal functions of the body
Pathology – Study of the causes and effects of diseases
Pathogenesis – patterns of the development of disease
Etiology – Study of the cause of disease
What are signs?
They are objective, measurable and can be seen.
What are Symptoms?
They are subjective, not measurable and its what the patient says it is.
What are Acute illness?
sudden appearance of signs and symptoms – lasts a short period of time - Eg.influenza
what are Chronic illness?
They develops slowly, lasts longer – days or weeks compared to months to years eg. arthritis
What is Prodromal –
vague nonspecific symptoms, before the onset of specific symptoms
What is Insidious –
vague or nonspecific feelings – may not notice – symptoms comes on very slowly – unnoticeable at first
What is Latent –
no symptoms are present, but disease is present
