because the three gospels seem to view things in the same way

and “syn,” which means together
Why are the Psalms so popular?
Which letters do you think are Paul and which are pseudo Paul? Why?
Paul writes situation-specific, convinces people of argument, talks about the details of travels, etc.

vocabulary used and percentages
style– less specific=not Pauline
theology–divine illumination already here (Col & Eph), from temporal category to spatial category–>future-ness of resurrection gone, Paul is elevated to Christ status, household codes seem out of place with Paul’s understanding of the imminent end of the world
What does it mean to be a missional church?
William Temple said that the church is the only society that exists for the benefit of those who are not its members.
A missional seeks to live into our call to be sent out into the world.

What is the Elizabethan Settlement?
Elizabeth’s first Parliament met in January 1559 and passed two acts– Act of Supremacy and Act of Uniformity
Act of Supremacy–revived Henry’s legislation against Rome and Edward’s act to restore the administration of the Sacrament to the laity in both kinds, reopened the breach with Rome; imposed an oath upon all ecclesiastical and lay officials acknowledging Elizabeth as “supreme governor” of both Church and State
Act of Uniformity–introduced with severe penalties for disobedience the Book of Common Prayer 1559
What are the sources for the Gospel of Matthew?
Matthew edits Mark–collects similar materials into compact speeches
Matthew also shares a similar source with Luke that scholars call “Q”
Matthew’s key theme: Jesus is the Jewish Messiah so write builds in Hebrew Bible passages as well
