Pastoral Epistles Flashcards

1
Q

1 Timothy 1

A

Timothy was to stay in Ephesus to instruct men what not to teach. The goal of our instruction is love, not law. The law is not for the righteous. Paul thanks God for mercy to serve, despite former blasphemies. Christ was patient, to God be the glory. Timothy, fight the good fight of faith.

Q

2 Timothy 1

A

Paul longs to see Timothy while recalling his past. He reminds him to rekindle his gift and suffer with him in God’s power for the gospel to which Paul had committed his life. Retain the standard, Paul admonishes, then contrasts those who turned away from him with Onesiphorus who searched for him.

Q

2 Timothy 2

A

Be strong and entrust to others, suffer hardship like a soldier, athlete and farmer - like Christ, for whom and for whose Word Paul suffered. Denying Christ brings denial from Christ. Don’t wrangle, but work! Be a vessel for honor. Don’t quarrel.
