When do we use the Past Continuous?
A continuous action in the past which is interrupted by another action or a time.Background information, to give atmosphere to a story.An annoying and repeated action in the past, usually with ‘always’.For two actions which happened at the same time in the past.

I was taking a bath when the telephone rang.At three o’clock, I was working.

It was a beautiful day. The birds were singing, the sun was shining and on the streets, people were laughing and chatting.

I was watching TV and he was reading.

She was playing and I was watching.

We were teaching when the fire alarm went off.
My brother (“To run” in the Past Continuous) outside when the temperature (“To drop” in the Simple Past) suddenly.
My brother was running outside when the temperature dropped suddenly.
Mathew’s cousins (“To swim” in the Past Continuous) in the ocean when something (“To touch” in the Simple Past) them.
Mathew’s cousins were swimming in the ocean when something touched them.
