Passive Transport Flashcards
Does not require external energy
Passive Transport
Why do molecules that undergo passive transport move?
Because of Kinetic Energy that causes collisions that occur until these molecules reach dynamic equilibrium
The movement of molecules from high to low concentration (from the source to outside the source) [dami to konti]
Diffusion
Types of Diffusion
Simple diffusion
Osmosis
Facilitated diffusion
In which small, hydrophobic molecules move through the plasma membrane. Nonpolar molecules pass through faster because they are soluble and do not interact with the hydrophobic membranes.
Simple diffusion
Involves water and solute instead of molecules. Said molecules move thru special pores called ‘aquaporene’
Osmosis
Large molecules like glucose and ions are facilitated by membrane channels (with the help of carrier proteins that attach to the membrane and channel proteins/holes)
Facilitated diffusion
The difference in the concentration of the molecules in two areas
Concentration gradient
