Passé Composé Flashcards
The passé composé is comprised of two parts:
The auxiliary verb and the past participle
With the passé composé you mostly use ______ as the auxiliary (“helping”) verb
Avoir
To form a past participle from a regular (“er”
or “ir”) verb what do you do?
You replace the “er” with an “é” and the “ir” with an “I”.
To use negation with the passé composé, where do you place the “ne” and “pas”?
Before and after the auxiliary verb
To use inversion to ask questions using the passé composé you …
invert the subject and avoir (if that’s the auxiliary verb)
Example: Avez-vous fêté votre anniversaire? (Did you celebrate your anniversary?)
Did Luc like his gift?
Luc a-t-Il aimé son cadeau?
When using the passé composé place the adverbs déjà, encore, bien, mal and beaucoup where?
Example: Tu as déjà mangé ta part de gâteau (You already ate your piece of cake)
When using the negative with passé composé and one of the adverbs: déjà, encore, bien, mal and beaucoup, in what order do you place the words?
First comes the subject, then “ne” and the auxiliary verb, followed by “pas” and next the adverb. Then comes the past participle. Finally comes the object.
Example: Elle n’a pas encore visité notre ville.”
