the word that the pronoun takes the place of (or refers to)

the group of people that the author wants to read whatever they wrote
author’s bias
a personal and unreasonable judgment for or against something
brainstorming
listing ideas for writing without worrying about how good the ideas are
capitalization
the use of upper-case letters in writing
cause
a reason something happens
central ideas
the most important idea in a paragraph
character
any person or animal or living thing that takes part in the action of a story
comparative
compares two things
conclusion
a decision readers make about a text based on information in the text and personal knowledge. A sentence in a paragraph that sums up the ideas in the paragraph
conflict
a problem that characters in a story must solve
context clues
a hint found in the sentence or paragraph in which an unknown word appears
descriptive writing
writing that uses details to create a picture for the reader
detail
a statement that supports a main idea by giving more information
dialogue
the words spoken by characters, punctuated with quotations marks. The quotation marks should ONLY be around the words spoken

a word-for-word section of a text, using quotation marks
