Describe the signifigance of the title.

A

The title of the novel is “Parvana’s Journey”, Parvana originally started this journey with her father to find her family, but her father later dies and it becomes Parvana, herself doing everything herself. But she later finds other children and they join Parvana’s journey, making it not just hers but theirs too.

What are the weapons used by the Taliban and mentioned in the novel?

A

The taliban carry batons and machine guns with them on a daily basis. Land mines are planted everywhere in Afghanistan. Villages are constantly bombed by planes dropping bombs down.

A

The refugee camps mentioned in the novel are just camp sites with everything in tents and refugees living in lean ons. There are always people there that have given up all hope and turn crazy. There are long lines everywhere and theyre to get simple essentials like food, water, treatment, clothing, and blankets.

  • Parvana’s mourning for her father’s death; at the beginning of the novel Parvana was mourning and covering her father’s grave with rocks.
  • Asif lost his leg when he was young, he was covered in scars from when he worked for his uncle in a fruit orchard. He also lost his family.

  • The people in afghanistan are struggling to survive , people are constantly being punished, stolen from, and starving
  • Parvana is struggling to survive, she’s the only one out to find food for the 4 of them, and she’s the only one fit to work.

-Violence;People are being punsihed by the Taliban everywhere and are fighting each other to survive.
-War;It’s everywhere, the reason why people loss their limbs are from war, its from land mines and constant bombings.

A

-Hunger is a theme that is shown almost in every chapter, the 4 children are always running out of food and the people around them are not willing to give them any, because they’re afraid they wont have any left, because they’re also starving.

They book cover is forshadowing for the 3 other children that will also join Parvana on her journey to find her family. Parvana seems to always make friends wen she stays at a certain place for a certain period of time.

-Parvana sacrafices her future to find her family; with the time she and her father had they could’ve escaped Afghanistan to somewhere safer for a better life but they chose to sacrafice their futures for the sake of being a whole family together.
