Parts Of the Eyes Flashcards
Iris
Makes the pupil large when light is dim & small when the light is brighter
Muscles
Allows eyes to move in various directions
Fat
Layers surrounding the eye to protects and cushion it from damage
Optic nerve
Carries nerve signals to the brain
Sclera
The tough cover of the eyeball that forms the “white” of the eye
Choriod
A layer found between the sclera and the retina that contains many blood vessels which bring nutrients and oxygen to the eye and removes waste
Retina
The area where the image is produced and converted into nerve signals
Viterious humour
A jelly like, fluid found in the centre of the eye which helps maintain the eyes shape and plays a small role in focusing light on the retina
Lens
Helps focus light on the retina (found behind the iris)
Cornea
Helps focus light on the retina (over the pupil)
Aqueous humour
A watery fluid like found between the cornea and iris which maintains the shape of the front of the eye and plays a small role in focusing light
Blind spot
Were the optic nerve and blood vessels connect to the retina, there are no rods or cones
Cilliary muscle
Controll the thickness of the lens, to adjust for near and far objects
Suspensory ligaments
Attach the cilliary muscle to the lens which allow the lens the change shape and focus light on the retina
Rods
Sensitive to dim light (only see im black n white)
