ascending colon
begins at the superior surface of the cecum
ascends along
right lateral and posterior wall of peritoneal cavity to the inferior surface of the liver and bends at right colic flexure
transverse colon
crosses abdomen from right to left and turns at left colic flexure
transverse colon is supported by
transverse mesocolon
transverse colon is separated from
anterior abdominal wall by greater omentum
descending colon
proceeds inferiorly along the left side to the iliac fossa and is retroperitoneal, firmly attaching itself to the abdominal wall
sigmoid colon shape
s-shape
sigmoid colon starts at
sigmoid flexure and lies posterior to urinary bladder and is suspended from sigmoid mesocolon and empties into rectum
pressure from colon
puts pressure on urinary bladder
