Deck
The flat surface area on top of the boat.
Cabin Trunk
The roof and sides of the cabin house.
Cockpit
The low space in the deck where the crew sits and the tiller is located.
Bow
The front of the boat.
Stern
The back of the boat.
Port
The left side of the boat facing forward.
Starboard
The right side of the boat facing forward.
Hull
The body of the boat that floats in the water.
Transom
The flat or slightly curved surface at the stern of the boat.
Companionway
A passageway from the cockpit to the area below the deck.
Tiller
The lever arm attached to the rudder that allows you to steer the boat.
Keel
The weighted vertical fin at the bottom of the boat. Its weight reduces heeling (tipping) while its shape keeps the boat from sliding sideways through the water.
Rudder
The stern foil, directed by the tiller, that is used to turn the boat.
