verbs that link one subject to its information
(Ex. are, become, is
Helping verbs
Verbs used with another in a verb phrase and helps the main the verb.
(Ex. may, will, can)
Adverbs
Words that can describe a adjective, verb, or different adverb. Tell how much, how often, when, and where
(Ex. Always, Slowly, Not)
Linking verb
Connects the subject to a word/ word group that identifies or describes the subjects. Connects the subject to a Noun, Adjective, or Pronoun.
(Ex. Be, Look. Should be, Remain)
Helping verb
Helps the main verb express action or state of being.
(Ex. Might, Could, Is)
Interjection
Abrupt remark, made as a a side or interruption that expresses strong emotions. Usually starts at the beginning of a sentence. Most often followed by a comma or exclamation mark.
(Ex. Well, Rats, Whoops)
Conjunction
Word that join words/word groups together.
Coordinating Conjunction
placed between words, phrases etc, or equal rank.
(FANBOYS,
F.for, A.and,N.nor,B.but.O.or,Y. yet, S. so.)
Correlative conjunction
Illustrates how 2 words/phrase within a sentence relate to each other.
Always come in pairs.
(Ex. Not only/But, either/or.)
Subordinating conjunction
word/phrase that links a dependent clause to an independent clause.
(Ex. While, Although)
Conjunction adverbs
Indicates a connection between 2 independent clauses in one sentence.
(Ex. Therefore However)
Preposition
word that shows a position or direction and shows a relationship between a noun or pronoun and another word in the rest of the sentence.
(Ex. On, For, Between)
