Nouns
Noun-a person, place or thing
For example, Sally, Australia, table, happy
Adjective
An adjective describes a noun or pronoun. Tells us what kind, how many, or which one.
E.g: kind, one, red
Verb
A verb tells us what action someone or something is doing. A verb can also express a state of being.
E.g: was, run, skip
Pronoun
A pronoun is used in place of a noun in a sentence. A pronoun may take the place of the name of a person, place or thing.
E.g: I, she, they
Article
The words a, an and the belong to a special group of adjectives called articles. An article can be used before a noun in a sentence.
E.g: a, an and the
Adverb
An adverb describes a verb, adjective or another adverb. An adverb tells how, when, where or to what degree,.
E.g: quickly, outside, today, barely.
Preposition
A preposition combines with a noun or pronoun to form a phrase that tells something about another word in the sentence.
E.g: from, over, to, until.
Conjunction
A conjunction joins together single words or groups of words in a sentence. There are correlating [pairs], coordinating [connect equal parts], subordinating [link independent to dependent clause].
E.g: and, so, however, nor, neither.
Interjection
An interjection expresses strong feeling or emotion. An interjection can be a single word or a phrase.
E.g: Look out!, Oh!, Ah!, Whew!
Abstract Noun
A noun that is an idea, quality or state rather than a concrete object.
E.g truth, happiness, danger
Proper Noun
A name used for an individual person, place or organisation. (Uses capital letter).
E.g Sally, London, Fountain Gate
Collective Noun
A count noun that denotes a group of individuals.
E.g. Crowd, school, gang, murder:murder of crows
Common Noun
A noun used to name general items rather than an individual.
E.g street, bathroom
Singular Noun
A noun that names one person, place or thing.
E.g. Skateboard, taco
Plural Noun
A noun that indicates that there is more than one person, place or thing.
E.g. Taco-tacos, potato-potatoes
