Verb
An action or a state. What is being done.
Examples: (to) be, have, do, like, work, sing, can, must
Noun
A person, place, or thing.
Examples: pen, dog, work, music, London, teacher, John
Adjective
Describing a noun.
Examples: good, big, red, well, interesting
Adverb
Describes a verb, an adjective, or an adverb.
Examples: quickly, silently, well, badly, very, really
Pronoun
Small words that take the place of a noun so it isn’t repeated over and over.
If we wrote the sentence “Please give this letter to Rosa”, we can replace the nouns:
Please give it to her.
It = the letter.
Her = Rosa.
Pronoun Examples: I, you, he, she, some, it
Preposition
A word that links a noun to another word.
Examples: to, at, after, on, but
Conjunction
A words that joined clauses or sentences and words. A word that combines two clauses to make one full sentence.
Examples: and, but, when
Interjection
A short exclamation, sometimes inserted into a sentence.
Examples: oh!, ouch!, hi!, well
