tell what the subject is doing.
linking verbs (to be)
connect or link a subject to a noun or an adjective.is, are, was, were, being, been, am. etc.
helping verbs
help the main verb express tense and voice like, shall, will, should, would, could, must, might, can, may, have, had, has, do, did, etc.
