word or phrase that describes or modifies a verb, adjective, or other adverb in a sentance
ex: he was running late, they ran swiftly
coodrinating conjunction
word that connects words, phrases, and clauses
FANBOYS: for, and, nor, but, or, yet, so
ex: I like ice cream and cheese, but im lactose intollerant
interjection
a word or phrase used to exclaim or protest or command. they sometimes stand by themselves, but not always.
ex:yeah, i geuss. I don’t know what the heck youre talking about
noun
person, place, thing, idea
proper noun
specific nouns that need to be capitalized
Allison, Massachuestts, Dunkin Donuts
common nouns
regular nouns, usually not capitalized
concrete nouns
nouns that are detectable by the five senses
abstract noun
nouns you cant detect with your five senses
time, greif, truth
preposition
a word that connects a noun to other words and shows the relationship between them
ex:I go to the store. My cat is outside the box. I am on top
pronoun
a word that substitutes for nouns or noun phrases and designates persons or things asked for, previosuly specified, or nunderstood from the context
ex: that is cool. These are nice. Whoever gets here first.
