Noun
A word that names a person, place, thing, or idea.
ex. The GIRL went to the LIBRARY to study.
Pronoun
A word used in place of noun.
ex. HE went to the movies with HER.
Adjective
A word that describes or gives information about a noun or pronoun.
ex. She is very PRETTY.
Verb
A word used to describe an action or state of being.
ex. She WALKED to school today.
Adverb
A word or phrase that modifies or qualifies an adjective, verb, or other adverb
ex. She walked SLOWLY.
Preposition
A word governing, and usually preceding, a noun or pronoun and expressing a relation to another word or element in the clause
ex. She sat ON the floor.
Conjunction
A word used to connect clauses or sentences or to coordinate words in the same clause.
ex. He wasn’t hungry BUT he ate his desert.
Interjection
A word used to express an emotion or sentiment
ex. Hi, Bye, GOODBYE
