Pronoun
A word used in place of a noun
Examples: I, her, him, it, that, these, she, & he
Noun
A word that names a person, place, thing, or idea
Examples: finesse, education, school, New York, teacher
Helpful reminder: the teacher
Adjective
A word that deacribes or gives information about a noun or pronoun
Examples: colorful, incessant, joyful, loud
Helpful reminder: the loud truck
Verb
A word that shows action or state of being
Examples: talk, jump, scream, run, is am, are
Helpful reminder: verbs change when in the present past or future
Adverb
A word that describes a verb, adjective, or other adverbs and tells where, when, how to or what extent
Examples: slowly, carefully, incessantly
Helpful reminder: often ends in “ly”
Prepostion
Shows the relationship of a noun or pronoun to another word
Examples: to, over, under, at, between, in
Helpful reminder: the squirel ran in the tree
Conjunction
A word that connects, words groups of words and sentances
Examples: for and nor, but or, yet so
Interjection
A word that expresses surprise or strong feeling seperate from the sentence
Examples: Wow! Hey!
