Noun
Person, place, or thing
“The book was very heavy” the noun is “book”
Pronoun
Used in place of a noun
“He liked the band.” The pronoun is “he”
Adjective
Describes or gives information about a noun
“The painting was very colorful” The adjective is “colorful”
Verb
Shows action or state of being
“She ran home” The verb is “ran”
Adverb
Describes verb, adjective, or other adverb and tells where, when, how, or to what extent
“I walked slowly towards the cat” The adverb is “slowly”
Preposition
Shows the relationship between a noun or pronoun and other words in a sentence
“The light was above my head” The preposition is “above”
Conjunction
Connects words, phrases, and sentences
“Jared and Jensen are both actors” the conjunction is “and”
Interjection
Short utterances used to exclaim or protest or command. “Hello! How are you?” The interjection is “hello”
