Noun
A word that names a person, place, thing or idea
Examples: education, school, New York
Helpful reminder: My mother will drop me off at school.
Pronoun
A word used in place of a noun.
Examples: I, her, him, it, that, these, she, he.
Helpful reminder: I will be going to the movies with my friend Jacqueline.
Adjective
A word that describes or gives information about the noun or pronoun.
Examples: colorful, odious incessant, playful, friendly, loud
Helpful reminder: the loud truck
Verb
A word that shows a action or state of being.
Examples: talk, jump, scream, run, is , am, are
Helpful reminder: verbs change when in the present, past, or future tense.
Adverb
A word that describes a verb, adjective, or other adverb and tells where, when, how, or to what extent.
Examples: slowly, carefully, incessantly
Helpful reminder: most adverb end in -ly
Prepostion
Shows the relationship of a noun or a pronoun to another word.
Examples: to, over, under, at, between, in
Helpful reminder: the squirrel ran over the tree
Conjunction
A word that connects words, groups of words, and sentences.
Examples: For, and, nor, but, or, yet, so
Interjection
A word that expresses surprise or strong feeling. Separate ftom the sentence.
Examples: Hey! Wow!
