eyepiece
Lens closest to the eye.
Objective Lenses
Three lenses that magnify the specimen (low-power 4x, medium-power 10x, high-power 40x).
Tube
Gives the distance needed between the eyepiece and objective.
Coarse Adjustment Knob
Moves the stage up and down to focus the specimen (use this first).
Fine Adjustment Knob
Also moves the stage, but only slightly to make fine adjustments to the focus.
Base
Supports the entire microscope.
Arm
Holds the tube and lenses. Connects to the base.
Revolving Nosepiece
Holds objective lenses. Rotate to change magnification.
Lamp/Light Source
Supplies the light that passes through the specimen on the stage.
Diaphragm
Circular disk that lets more or less light pass through the stage.
Stage
Platform for slide to rest. An opening in its center lets light pass through.
Clips(2)
Hold the slide in place on the stage.
what do you do when you want to use a microscope?
Bring it to station while holding one hand on neck and one hand on base, then plug it in, turn it on with a button at the back, place the slides in, then adjust.
