Parts of brain Flashcards
Planning and decision making
-working memory (short-term memory)
Prefrontal Cortex:
-Memory
-Pattern recognition
Temporal Lobe
-Spatial Reasoning
-Sensory integration
Parietal Lobe
-Visual Processing
Occipital Lobe
-Limbic System
Subcortical Lobe
communicates with internal organs and glands, sympathetic division (arousing), parasympathetic division (calming).
Central Nervous system
communicates with sense organs and voluntary muscles, Sensory (afferent), Motor (efferent)
Peripheral Nervous system
largest of the three brain sections, 85% in weight
Cerebrum
-primarily responsible for muscle control, including balance and movement.
-though it takes up less space, it holds more than half of the neurons of your body.
Cerebellum
- the basic functional unit of the nervous system that powers the rapid fire process that turns thoughts into actions, compromised of three parts
Neurons
- bring information into the neuron, and the axon, which sends information to other neurons
Nerve cell body
connects your brain to your spinal cord
Brainstem
occurs best during the first three years of life, this is the creation of new pathways in the brain
Synaptogenesis
