A

Pros:

  • simple and quick to implement, low cost, reliable
  • minimal training needed

Cons:

  • reliance on communication partner + patience
  • communication partner needs to be familiar with the device
  • privacy, independency issues
  • shorter messages

Pros:

  • long detailed messages produced independently
  • quick = stored messages
  • partners don’t really need training
  • large variety of options

Cons:

  • complex to set up and learn
  • purchase and maintenance costs
  • may not operate in all contexts

  • Phraseboard (for in ICU setting - identify pain etc., can add phrases, poor voice output).
  • Verbally (core vocab, word prediction, synthesised speech but poor quality).
  • Speak it! (can add own voice in voice bank)
  • Assistive express (saves recent phrases, word prediction)
  • Predictable(expensive, can use email/ text/ social media, word/phrase prediction, photo importing)
