Pros:
- simple and quick to implement, low cost, reliable
- minimal training needed
Cons:
- reliance on communication partner + patience
- communication partner needs to be familiar with the device
- privacy, independency issues
- shorter messages

Pros:
- long detailed messages produced independently
- quick = stored messages
- partners don’t really need training
- large variety of options
Cons:
- complex to set up and learn
- purchase and maintenance costs
- may not operate in all contexts

- Phraseboard (for in ICU setting - identify pain etc., can add phrases, poor voice output).
- Verbally (core vocab, word prediction, synthesised speech but poor quality).
- Speak it! (can add own voice in voice bank)
- Assistive express (saves recent phrases, word prediction)
- Predictable(expensive, can use email/ text/ social media, word/phrase prediction, photo importing)
