What is a communion table/ altar used for?
The altar is used for communion.
What is an organ used for?
An organ is a musical instrument used to accompany the singing of hums and worship.
What is the pulpit used for?
The pulpit is where the vicar or priest stands to give his sermons.
What are pews used for?
The pews are where the congregation sits.These face the altar and are often benches. This symbolises that people are together and equal.
What is the font used for?
The font is used for baptism which welcomes people into the church community. It is placed near the doors to symbolically show that it is part of the entrance to the church.
What are the stained glass windows for?
These have images from stories from the Bible. These help children to understand stories of people in the past who were unable to read.
What are the choir stalls used for?
The choir stalls are where the choir singers sit.The choir help to lead the worship through singing
What is the Lectern used for?
Readers stand on the lectern to read out passages from the bible
What is a confessional used for?
Confessionals are only in Catholic churches. This is where people go to explain their sins to the priest. The priest then gives them advice and can offer them forgiveness from God
