Parts of A Cell Flashcards
Cytosol
The fluid part of a cell.
Lysosome
Contains hydrolytic enzymes. Breaks down excess or worn-out cell parts.
Endoplasmic Reticulum (ER)
Transport System of a cell. (RER - Rough Endoplasmic Reticulum) or (SER - Smooth Endoplasmic Reticulum).
Smooth Endoplasmic Reticulum (SER)
Responsible for synthesising phospholipids and cholesterol.
Rough Endoplasmic Reticulum (RER)
Has Ribosomes attached. Responsible for synthesising and exporting proteins and glycoproteins.
Nucleus
The central part of a cell. Contains DNA and is responsible for what a cell does and how it does it.
Golgi Complex
Helps process and package proteins and lipid molecules, especially proteins destined to be exported.
Ribosomes
Start in the nucleus. Either attach to Endoplasmic Reticulum or float freely in Cytosal. Responsible for synthesising protein.
Cell membrane
Outside part of cell. Separates contents of cell from external environment.
Mitochondria
Synthesises ATP. Generates the chemical energy needed to power the cell.
