Q

PRIMARY MAKE-UP OF SKELETAL SYSTEM

A

Cartilage: resilient, semi-rigid form of connective tissue that reduces friction and absorbs some shock in synovial joints.

Periosteum: a membrane covering the surface of bones, [except at the articular surfaces].

It is composed of two layers: an outer fibrous layer and an inner highly vascular layer that contains cells for creation of new bone.

It is a point of attachement for ligaments and tendons and is critical for bone growth, repair and nutrition.

Bone: 1. Diaphysis

  1. Epiphysis
