Particle Theory and Mixtures Flashcards
What are the three states of matter?
Solid, Liquid and Gas
Do particles move, and if so, the particles of which state of matter move the most and least?
Particles do move, and gas particles move the most, the liquid particles in the middle, and the particles of a solid the least.
Which state of matter has the strongest bonds, and which the weakest?
Solids have the strongest bonds, liquids have medium bonds, and gases the weakest.
What is a solute?
A solute is the solid that is dissolved in a liquid.
What is a solvent?
A solvent is the liquid that the solute is dissolved in.
What is a solution?
A solution is the mixture of a solute and a solvent
What is the difference between a soluble and insoluble solid?
A soluble solid is one that can be dissolved, but an insoluble solid is one that cannot be dissolved.
What is a saturated solution?
A saturated solution is a solution that cannot dissolve anymore solute.
