Particle Theory Flashcards
What is density in terms of particle arrangement?
How much mass is packed into a given volume.
What two things can the particles model be used to explain?
The different states of matter and the differences in density.
What are the six physical changes of state?
Melting, boiling, sublimation, condensation, freezing and deposition.
What is specific latent heat?
The energy needed for 1kg of a substance to change state with no change in temperature.
What is meant by specific heat capacity?
The amount of heat energy required to raise the temperature of 1kg of a substance by 1°C.
What is latent heat of fusion?
The amount of heat energy required to change a substance from a solid to a liquid or from a liquid to a solid state at a constant temperature without a change in the substance’s temperature.
What is meant by latent heat of vaporisation?
The amount of heat energy required to convert a substance from a liquid to a gaseous state without a change in temperature.
What happens to gas in a constant volume when the temperature increases.
The pressure increases.
