Particle Model of Matter Flashcards
What does incompressible mean and to what states of matter does it refer to?
Cannot be squashed.
Solids and liquids.
What is the density of a material?
Its mass per unit volume.
What type of energy does changing state alter?
Internal energy.
What is the latent heat of fusion?
Energy needed for a sustain to change from solid to liquid.
What is the latent heat of vaporisation?
Energy needed for a substance to change from liquid to gas.
Where on a graph may indicate a change of state?
Where the line is horizontally flat.
What is sublimation?
When a substance changes from a solid to a gas due to certain pressures.
What causes an increase in pressure?
If more energy is given to gas particles, they will move around faster and therefore collide into walls more often eddy exert more energy. These collisions build up pressure.
