Part One: Connective Tissues in Skeletal Muscle Flashcards
What is the name of the connective tissue surrounding a whole muscle,
shown at “1”?
Epimysium (dense fibrous c.t.)
Moving upward toward the skin, tissue “1” thickens slightly and
changes names. What is it now called? What does it eventually
become just under the skin?
Epimysium turns into fascia, which separates adjacent muscles
(separates individual muscles from each other). As fascia extends
upward, it eventually becomes the hypodermis under the skin.
Muscles are made up structures called fascicles. What is a fascicle?
What is the name of the connective tissue covering each fascicle,
shown at “2”?
Skeletal muscle is made of fascicles—which are bundles of cells.
Perimysium covers each fascicle. (areolar/loose c.t.)
What is the name of the connective tissue that holds muscle fibers
together within a fascicle, shown at “3”?
Endomysium (areolar/loose c.t.)
What type of connective tissues are these 4 structures made of?
See above. Fascia is dense fibrous c.t.
