part of cell Flashcards
prokaryotic cells
contain the following parts and organelles : an outside rigid layer an inner layer some cells contain a flagellum
Cell wall
an outside rigid layer helps separate the prokaryotic cells from the inside and outside has an inside plasma membrane that is semipermeable allowing certain substances in and out of cell as needed
Cytoplasm
the inner layer of the Prokaryotic cell, rich protein fluid with gel like consistency that houses organelles or tiny organs that serves a unique function within the cell
the Nucleoid
is the condensed DNA of the cell contains genes and genetic blueprints of the formation of proteins that make up of the machinery of cells
Plasmids
are small circular portions of DNA associated with the nucleoid they contain a small number of genes compared to the DNA in the nucleoid
Ribosomes
manufacture proteins for the cell from the RNA messages they are very small bodies that are that free float from the cytoplasm proteins do most of work in both Prokaryotic and eukaryotic cells
flagellum
are in certain Prokaryotic cells purpose cellular movement
flagella
are long and whip like and project outward from the cell bacteria also have pili that allow communication and transfer of info between two cells
Eukarya
have eukaryotic cells that are more complex then prokaryotic cells also many time larger.some live as single cells , many exsist as part of a larger complex of cells eukaryotic cells contain the following parts and organelles : plasma membrane,Ribosomes the endoplasmic reticulum , golgi apparatus vesicles mitochondria micrtubulos the nuclus the nucleoulus
Plasma memebrane
envelopes the cell and is semipermeable to alloe certian substances and water in and out the cytoplasm inside the cell contains the cell contents and the organellses and is gel like
Endoplasmic reticulum (ER)
tubular transport network within the cells looks like stack of flattened membranes sac there are two types of endoplasmic reticulum rough and smooth . Smooth is important for numerous metabolic processes. the ER is responsible for moving proteins from one part of cell to the other
Gogli apparatus
is involved in the packaging and transport of proteins in the cell including protein secretion. composed of layers of membrane has multiple functions . it refines proteins sorts proteins and prepares them for transport to other parts of cell works hand in hand with ER in protein movement and processing
Vesicles
small membrane bounded sacs within the cytoplasm used to transport proteins or other substances in or out of cell there are many types of vesicles three types are vacuoles lyosomes peroxisomes . the Vacuoles is a storage unit that can hold various substances. Lyosomes contain digestive enzymes that are capable of disposing of cellular debris and worn cellular parts , Peroxisomes rid the body of toxic components such as hydrogen peroxide are major sites of oxygen use and energy production
microchrondria
power houses of the cell they are the location where the cellular fuel ATP is produced. are large kidney bean shaped organelles surrounded by membranes.
Microtubles
cellular tracks that during mitosis from the mitotic spindle helps organize and segregate the chromosomes during cell division
