There were a play written by Arthur MIller called “The Crucible” which was a metaphor of the witch of Salem and puritans to translate what was going on at the time with the witchhunt of communists.

John Adams in 1765 said that freedom for protestants is the possibility to master their own destiny.

A

Calvin’s work : they were predestinarians. Individuals fates were sealed from the start. Nothing could change ther destiny and at the end it’s either salvation or damnation.

Success would only mean economic success and it was God’s favour, a sign to them that they will end up saved.
