Part B - Integrity and Propriety Flashcards
Outline the relationship between transparency and conflicts of interest.
Transparency is a key concept, including the need for a journalist when writing or publishing material to either stand aside or to declare that conflict to both his/her editor and, if ethically necessary, within the published work.
Who usually makes decisions around the acceptance of ‘free’ meals, gifts, and other offers?
Editors.
What issues may arise when a journalist is a member of a group or an organisation?
Issues regarding specialist knowledge or ‘bust-up’ between club members - loyalty issues. There is no blanket prohibition on group membership but work role/membership must be declared when needed.
There may be occasions when a journalist would be right to publish information given by an organisation/group to its members.
