Offset the jambs in opposite directions at the bottom to being closer in alignment.

A

So it will go past the strike plate and hinges without having to be notched around them

What is the purpose of gluing mitres as they are assembled?

A

Helps keep it tight and locks in place so to resist opening due to shrinkage and building movement
