What are the bifold door hardware?
Top pivot, track and top pivot block, bottom pivot, bottom pivot block, alignment clip, and slide guide.
Purpose of alignment clip
Holds bottom of doors aligned
Where do you install alignment clip?
150 to 300 mm from bottom of the door
How to determine top casing length?
Reveal + top jamb length + reveal
What moulding is used across the top of a door or window opening and can be made of a build up of many?
Architrave
What moulding is used to trim corners of openings and casing butts on the side of them.
Rosettes
What happens if the fasteners are too long in a pocket door frame
They will project though door frame and can cause damage to newly installed door
Advantages over using open stock door and jamb materials
Reduced cost, ability to mix and match door styles and jamb materials
Importance of screws being centred on hinges
Screws can push hinges out of place Ans cause door to be unaligned
What should be done to allow hardwood floors to be installed on door jambs
Put a piece of flooring under jamb as a shim
Why are doorstops cut short from the floor?
To allow easy cleaning along the floor line
What check on a door before drilling the latch set
If the door has been stamped on the hinge side top or bottom
What size hole should be drilled for a standard latch bolt? For a cylinder?
Drill latch bolt first is a 25 mm spade or forstner bit, then drill the cylinder with a 54 mm hole saw or multi spur bit
Why are hinges installed on the jamb 3 mm lower than on the door?
To provide clearance ontop of the door
Why should you use half jamb around bi fold door openings?
So the finish and appearance the door is similar to that of a swing door
What is the hardware installed on the middle at the bottom of bi fold doors?
Alignment clips
Why would you use screws to attach the top of a split jamb of a pocket door?
It makes them easier to remove later and make adjustments
Why would you install the concave side of a bowed door to the stop of the jamb?
To pull the door straight when it closes to allow it to catch the latch and straightens over time.
What to do to adjust a door latterly.
By shimming behind the hinges with thin material to move the door latterly.
How to compensate for the bottom jambs being out of alignment.
Offset the jambs in opposite directions at the bottom to being closer in alignment.
Why is casing installed with a reveal
So it will go past the strike plate and hinges without having to be notched around them
What is the purpose of gluing mitres as they are assembled?
Helps keep it tight and locks in place so to resist opening due to shrinkage and building movement
Different way of trimming the door opening where it meets the floor.
Using a plinth block on the door with the casing cut ontop of the square.
