What are the main kingdoms for living organisms?
Bacteria, Single-Celled Organisms, Plants, Fungi and Animals.
What are the advantages of using a scientific name for organisms?
The name is always the same, no matter the language.
What is the order of classification?
Kingdom, Phylum, Class, Order, Family, Genus, Species.
What is the names “Dog”, “Cat”, etc. classed under?
They are common names.
How may an animal population be affected?
Competition for food/water, Predators, Disease and Pollution.
How may a plant population be affected?
Competition for light/water/minerals, herbivores, disease and pollution.
What is a predator?
Something that eats prey.
What is prey?
Something that is eaten by a predator.
What are habitats being used for?
Building, Quarrying, Dumping rubbish and Agriculture.
What are the advantages and disadvantages for fertilizers?
Advantages: Increases plant yield. Disadvantages: Can wash out of soil into river and streams.
What are the advantages and disadvantages for pesticides?
Advantages: Increases yield by killing insects and pests. Disadvantages: Can destroy non-pests, such as bees.
What are indicator species?
Species that indicate the amount of pollution in a river or stream.
What heavy metals are release into the sea?
Lead, Mercury, Cadmium and Tin.
